It is too early to write off brick and mortar business model. Online shopping platform are mainly for generic and low-price items where it would not be cost efficient to maintain a brick and mortar presence. Brick and mortar business model is in vogue and will remain so in the foreseeable future. Just need to ensure no over-expansion in the number of outlets and that the product offerings are in accordance with the current wants of shoppers. It is just that the current epidemic has created a major disruption for all businesses.

Ov123, at this time what assets can be unlocked? I see Pmh can be unloaded. Corus hotel London instead of selling they refinance with UOB ! Hotels are difficult to offload now. Wait 2021, may be. What else can be offloaded? Metro jaya? Network Food?

Seek, this was an off market deal. It could literally be anything - gifts to grandchildren, to mistress ( just joking) or a private placement to fund managers. The surprising thing is that KKP is not taking it private or at least not yet. The market cap is only RM337m and he already owns close to 50%. Buying it will only cost around RM172m plus whatever premium. The assets (especially the massive landbank in NS) that I mentioned earlier plus condos in Pahang and Singapore , shoplots in Penang, warehouses in Johore , etc will go a long way to pay for it and to wipe out the bulk of the net debt of around RM600m. He will end up with the crown jewels Corus KL and Hyde Park plus all the other many hotels and Mui Prop for free.

The disposal proceeds not even enough to pay high suppliers’ overdues. Many suppliers have stopped supplying to Metrojaya without any payment made in advance. The situation in Metrojaya is really bad. The Metrojaya executive director resigns after only 10 months on the job.
